Your jaw pain and tension explained

Treatment for jaw pain and tension

Your lower jaw and your skull are connected on each side by the temporomandibular joints (or TMJ).

Like any joint, these can have problems such as wear and tear, disc degeneration, inflammation, tendonitis and tension. Problems with jaw alignment, teeth grinding and jaw clenching are also linked to TMJ pain and tension.

TMJ issues are often linked to restrictions elsewhere in your body, and often pelvic rotation. But they can also refer pain and tension to your head, face and neck.

Our patients typically come to us for help once they have tried other types of treatment, such as mouth guards and Botox injections.

Myofascial Release treatment for jaw pain and tension is different, because as well as reducing your symptoms, we look for and treat the cause. So we are able to very gently create the conditions to allow your body to untangle itself.

This is what one of our patients told us:

“For as long as I can remember, I’ve had a problem with the alignment of my teeth. The right side of my face had a wisdom tooth that was hitting the molar underneath and then there was a space on the other side, because my jaw was twisted. The left side of my face also felt affected – my eye was a different shape and every time I opened my mouth, the left side of my jaw cracked while the right side popped out. The dentist recommended removal of the wisdom tooth, but I really didn’t want that. I have just finished a 3 day Let it Go package at Holisticare and now things have changed beyond my expectations. I really can’t believe it! My face feels like it has been readjusted – my eyes are symmetrical, my teeth are lining up correctly, my jaw doesn’t crack any more. And when I’m eating, I don’t have to decide which side of my mouth to chew on.”
